Vaginal birth?

Breast milk is the best possible nutrition for your baby. Close contact with your baby – skin-to-skin bonding – not just in the first few hours of life, is the first step towards successful breastfeeding.

                                              

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • shorter hospital stay, less postnatal pain, quicker recovery
  • earlier and closer contact with the newborn, faster onset of lactation
  • less blood loss, lower risk of complications (infection, injury to internal organs, thrombosis)
  • no scar on the uterus for future pregnancies/births
  • greater likelihood of a subsequent vaginal birth
  • better postnatal adaptation of the newborn
  • better immunity in the baby, natural gut microbiome
  • lower risk of allergies, asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes and lactose intolerance in the child
  • perineal and pelvic floor injuries during birth, with possible consequences for pelvic floor stability (prolapse, incontinence)
  • labour pains
  • risk of foetal trauma during passage through the birth canal (abrasions, swelling of the head, haematomas, clavicle fractures)
