TENS

For many women, childbirth is associated with the prospect of pain and uncertainty. Yet there is a method that can alleviate pain, give a greater sense of control, and enable a woman to experience childbirth with peace of mind.

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. It sounds technical, but in reality it is a very simple, gentle and safe method that has been used in medicine for decades. How does it work?

  • The device sends gentle electrical impulses through the skin
  • These affect the nerve endings on the back
  • this reduces the perception of pain

TENS is used, for example, for back pain, migraines, sports injuries and, in recent years, during childbirth, where it has a surprisingly strong effect.

Why does Elle TENS+ work so well during childbirth?

1. It slows down the “pain pathway” to the brain

Pain travels along nerve pathways. TENS gently stimulates these nerves — thereby ‘keeping them busy’. The brain thus receives fewer pain signals. The woman feels calmer and her body can work more naturally.

2. It promotes the production of endorphins – natural painkillers

Endorphins are hormones of happiness and relief. TENS increases their production, which naturally alleviates pain.

3. It enhances a sense of control and confidence

The woman can regulate the intensity of the stimulation herself, as well as the so-called “boost” during a contraction. This gives her an active role in the whole process. Many mums describe how, thanks to TENS, they felt: “I’ve finally got this in my own hands.”

4. It works where labour really hurts

During labour, pain most commonly arises in the lower back. The electrodes are placed precisely there – directly where the pain originates.

We lend out the device in the delivery room. The woman only needs to purchase the disposable adhesive electrodes. You can also hire the device for your own birth at www.mamavibe.cz. Then you can be sure that you’ll be able to use it when you need it, right from the very first contractions at home.
