Laparotomy – caesarean section scar

Breast milk is the best possible nutrition for your baby. Close contact with your baby – skin-to-skin bonding – not just in the first few hours of life, is the first step towards successful breastfeeding.

During a caesarean section, up to seven layers of the abdominal wall and the uterus are gradually opened and then closed again – sutured. At the end of the operation, the skin incision is sutured with absorbable sutures whilst the anaesthesia – usually spinal anaesthesia – is still in effect. After the operation, it is covered with a sterile dressing.
