Administration of oxytocin
Breast milk is the best possible nutrition for your baby. Close contact with your baby – skin-to-skin bonding – not just in the first few hours of life, is the first step towards successful breastfeeding.
Oxytocin is a natural hormone that triggers uterine contractions, thereby facilitating childbirth. The administration of oxytocin via infusion is subject to specific criteria, which we follow. These include, for example, labour that is not progressing, weak contractions, short contractions, postpartum haemorrhage and similar conditions. When administering an oxytocin infusion, the baby must be monitored using a CTG. If the contractions induced by the oxytocin infusion are painful, we offer pain relief.
