Inhalation analgesia

Breast milk is the best possible nutrition for your baby. Close contact with your baby – skin-to-skin bonding – not just in the first few hours of life, is the first step towards successful breastfeeding.

This involves inhaling a mixture of ‘laughing gas’ (N₂O) and oxygen. The method has sedative, relaxing and analgesic effects. We tend to use it primarily in the later stages of labour, when the administration of epidural analgesia is no longer possible. The effects set in quickly but also wear off quickly; the mother regulates the inhalation herself. It can also be used during the examination and suturing of perineal tears. The treatment is not covered by public health insurance. The cost for each half-hour or part thereof is CZK 500.
