Emergency caesarean section
Breast milk is the best possible nutrition for your baby. Close contact with your baby – skin-to-skin bonding – not just in the first few hours of life, is the first step towards successful breastfeeding.
The most common reasons for an emergency caesarean section are foetal hypoxia (distress caused by a lack of oxygen) or haemorrhage. If a caesarean section needs to be performed very quickly due to a risk to the baby or the mother, it is always a highly stressful situation, both in terms of communication and technical demands, for both the obstetricians and the expectant parents. We try to explain the reason for the operation briefly, but we are often unable to answer everything you want to know in detail at that moment. At the same time, we are busy summoning all members of the surgical team and preparing the operating theatre for the procedure. None of this can be delayed. After the birth, the obstetrician will explain the whole situation to the parents and give them the opportunity to ask any questions.
